"My Uterus is Falling Out. I Have Prolapse."

The above words are words my client said to me just this past week...

She came into my office, tears in her eyes, we've not met before... and she told me...

"I saw a gynecologist and he told me that my uterus was falling out. When he pulled up the sheet to insert the speculum for my yearly exam, he made a face and said that. Then he told me that sucks and I will need surgery."

My poor client did not know better at the time, she did not know to find another gynecologist, get a second opinion, or to find a pelvic health professional.

As a Pelvic Floor PT I hear stories like this all the time.

So, let's break this down the best we can.

First, what is pelvic organ prolapse?

POP is what happens when your reproductive organs start to come to the opening of your vagina (or rectum). There are several types of pelvic organ prolapse.

You can have Cystocele (bladder prolapse), rectocele (rectum prolapse), uterine prolapse (uterus prolapse), and more.

If you have pelvic organ prolapse, you may notice heaviness/pressure in the vagina at the end of the day, always, or with some activities. You may see/feel a ball like/egg like structure at the opening as well.

The good news is that pelvic floor therapy can help a TON when clients are suffering from prolapse.

The purpose of this blog is not necessarily to describe and explain all of the above (this will come in the future for sure). But more so to explain advocacy and what I was able to do for this beautiful client.

IF you are ever told surgery is the only way... run.

If you are ever made to feel disgusting, like you are a disgrace, or that something is terribly wrong with you... run.

You deserve so much more than that.

You deserve better.

Find a clinician who will speak for you and help you find the answers you deserve.

Pelvic organ prolapse is not the end of the rope. It is not a diagnosis that is the end of it all.

You can exercise.

You can have sex.

You can poop.

Without symptoms.

Find a pelvic health professional who gives you the power to find better.

This particular client was in awe at the fact that after one session she was completely free of her symptoms.

She is walking, doing strength training, and more without any symptoms at all.

You can have that too.
